Katie Poole, owner of local event planning firm The Burlap Elephant and cocktail bar service Batch, is adding a third business to her growing repertoire with the opening of Bennie + Coco, a surf-inspired women’s boutique opening Thursday, May 10 at 50 Queen Street.
A resident of Isle of Palms, Poole was inspired by Charleston's coastal lifestyle and aesthetic as she sourced designers for the 700-square-foot store. Bennie + Coco represents a carefully edited collection of well-known and up-and-coming brands and designers including Banjanan; James Perse; Chan Luu; The Great; Made By Dawn; 9 Seed; Madeworn; Rollas Jeans; Banner Day; and Carolina K. In addition to clothing, Bennie + Coco will carry swimwear, accessories and lifestyle products. The design of the shop is clean, cool and relaxed, with a beachy, bohemian vibe.
A Richmond, VA native, Poole has an extensive background in fashion. After earning a degree in Fashion Merchandising from the University of Alabama, she worked at Vogue in New York City and has managed women’s boutiques in Virginia and Charleston. The name Bennie + Coco is an nickname combination of Poole’s maiden name, Collier, and her mother Sarah's maiden name, Benson.
