Local Toastmasters Club to Host Open House on New Education Program for Communication and Leadership

Mike Wilson, Pathways guide for local Toastmasters clubs, will introduce the new education program during the Pleasant Speakers open house.

Pleasant Speakers Toastmasters (www.7783.pleasantspeakers.toastmastersclubs.org) invites the public to an open house on Monday, April 23rd, at 6:00 p.m. to learn about the new Pathways education program for communication and leadership. The new program combines a modern curriculum of 10 learning paths and certifications with the proven, supportive club environment.

During the course of a Pathways education, members now have the opportunity to learn more than 300 unique competencies. Dynamic new projects include persuasive speaking, motivating others, blogging, conducting online meetings, podcasting, ethical leadership, managing a group in a difficult situation, and more. As club members progress through Pathways, they:
- Practice and improve their communication and leadership skills, receiving feedback from other members,
- Challenge themselves to build and refine certain competencies, and
- Complete projects to earn badges that contribute to Toastmasters International’s new certifications.

“Pleasant Speakers Toastmasters provides a positive and energizing environment,” said Kevin Ecarius, vice president of education for the club. “With Pathways, we have a modern, blended learning program that will help everyone progress faster in improving their communication, ranging from day-to-day interactions to speaking in larger groups, as well as important leadership skills to enhance careers and community service.”

With light refreshments available, the open house will start with a presentation on Pathways by Mike Wilson and Gary Becroft, Pathways guides for local Toastmasters clubs. The meeting will then feature a standard format with opportunities for members and guests to participate, including in Table Topics™. This popular, fun section features volunteers giving a one-to-two minute speech about an impromptu question or topic. The short, impromptu talks are one of the best skills to master, as Table Topics enhances communication daily.
