Maxtrix Kids and Children’s Museum Partner to Create the Ultimate Hideaway

When two children’s focused organizations come together, you can imagine they come up with something pretty special. The Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry (CML) has joined forces with Maxtrix Kids Rooms, a locally owned and operated kids’ furniture manufacturer and retailer, to open “Hideaways,” a new hands-on exhibit where children use their imagination to build hiding places and create new worlds. The exhibit opened to the public on Saturday, Feb. 10, and will be available through August.

Centered around two Maxtrix Corner Loft Beds with slides, stairs, tents and towers, children are invited to stretch their imaginations and explore the possibilities of pillows, blankets, dowels, fasteners, hooks, and a whimsical play space.

The “Hideaways” exhibit consists of four sections of creative play:

• The Biggest Bed: Climb, slide and hide on, under and around a fantastical bed (in fact, it’s four of them) built just for the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry by exhibit partners, Maxtrix Kids Rooms.

• Tents-sational!: Using dowels and stick-lets® of many colors and sizes, kids can really go out on a limb fashioning tents in whatever size or shape catches their fancy.

• Hoop-houses: Hoops mounted from the ceiling change our perspective and multiply the possibilities of what and how we build – the sky (or at least the ceiling) is the limit.

• Toddler Spot: Little ones 3 and under have a special place to play hide and seek, explore object permanence, and enjoy their own tiny hideaway.

“We are excited to partner with the Children’s Museum to bring this imaginative play-space to life,” said Anne Jensen, Maxtrix Kids marketing director. “The exhibit is a wonderful way to bring the joy of play and exploration to a large number of local kids. It’s such a creative way to use our furniture in unexpected ways, and we loved the challenge of building something that is super fun but educational at the same time. “

The “Hideaways” exhibit will be available through August and is free for CML Members and CML ticket-holders. Visitors can get a 10 percent off coupon to Maxtrix Kids Rooms merchandise right at the Museum.

Maxtrix Kids Rooms and the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry will be partnering on a giveaway that will include an original Maxtrix bed. Visit to sign up for emails or to follow Maxtrix on social media for all the details.
