Tiger Lily Helps Blind Student in Fundraising Effort for a Tiny House

Award-winning local florist Tiger Lily raised more than $1,000 during its May Charity in Bloom program. Throughout the month, 15 percent of the proceeds from a designated arrangement were donated to Gina Applebee, a blind PhD student raising money to build a tiny house so she can live independently for the first time. She has teamed up with I Got Legs -- an organization dedicated to improving the lives of the disabled community -- to help her achieve her $30,000 fundraising goal. The Charity in Bloom program raised $1,485.60 for Applebee’s efforts.

Manny and Clara Gonzales started Tiger Lily in 1996. Since then, Tiger Lily has grown to be the largest florist in South Carolina and has been Voted “Charleston’s Best Florist” every year since 2000. In addition to its downtown Charleston shop, Tiger Lily is working on a second location on James Island. For more information, visit www.tigerlilyflorist.com.
