Toadfish Conservation Coalition Aims to Create an Acre Oyster Reef
Charleston, SC (October 7, 2019) -- In an effort to restore oyster habitats and ultimately cleaner waters, the Charleston-based Toadfish Conservation Coalition will host Shellabration, a Lowcountry-style fundraiser featuring food, wine, and auction items on November 3 from 3 - 7 pm. Proceeds from the event will fund an acre oyster reef in the Charleston Harbor which has some of the poorest water quality in the state. Shellabration for Conservation will be held at Bowen’s Island Restaurant (1870 Bowens Island Road, Charleston, SC) near Folly Beach, SC.
“The Toadfish Conservation Coalition is proud to present our first annual Shellabration, which celebrates Lowcountry living at its finest while also giving back to preserve the saltwater lifestyle and culture we love,” said Casey Davidson, Toadfish Conservation Coalition President. “Oysters are the most vital part of healthy marine ecosystems, filtering thousands of gallons of water per day and providing habitat for hundreds of species.”
Local Charleston oyster farms, including Lowcountry Oyster Co., Barrier Island Oyster Co., and Charleston Oyster Farm will serve native, sustainably grown oysters on the half shell. Top chefs from 167 Raw, Herd Provisions, and Farmstead Co. will set up stations serving signature dishes, along with wine and beer stations from Oysterman, Post Parade Wines, and Island Coastal Lager.
Guests can expect a silent auction featuring local artists, Charleston vacation packages, Kiawah vacation packages, food and wine experiences, fishing and boating charters, and more. Live music will be provided by local artist Bender Funk as guests enjoy the sun setting over the Folly River.
“Water quality is the number one issue threatening coastal waterways,” said Davidson. “The good news is we all can pitch in to ensure a sustainable future. We cannot depend solely on state or federal entities to protect our coasts. It is up to us to make a difference.”
A total of 300 tickets will be made available and a select number of VIP tickets will allow guests access to an intimate bonus hour which includes a VIP gift bag of Toadfish Outfitters gear and exclusive items from sponsors. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit
