The American Heart Association will host the 25th anniversary of the Lowcountry Heart Walk on Saturday, September 29th at the Riverfront Park in North Charleston. Five thousand supporters and survivors are expected to attend and raise funds to support cardiovascular research and education.
This event could be the first million-dollar Heart Walk in South Carolina. With your help, the American Heart Association can continue to educate the community, promote healthier living, fight heart disease and stroke, and fund lifesaving research.
The Heart Walk raises awareness that walking 30 minutes a day greatly reduces your risk of heart disease and stroke, which are America’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers. Life is Why is locally sponsored by MUSC, and Healthy For Good is locally sponsored by the InterTech Group.
Activities begin at 8:00am. The walk will begin at 9:00 a.m. This year’s Heart Walk Chair, Joe Motley of Motley Rice LLC. is encouraging the community to get involved.“I am proud to help raise awareness and funds alongside our Executive Leadership Team members and the Charleston community for the MUSC Little Hearts Program, which honors children and families who have battled congenital heart disease, cardiomyopathy or cardiac arrhythmia” says Rice. “I look forward to joining survivors, corporate teams, community leaders and Charlestonians at this year’s Lowcountry Heart Walk, and hope you will too.”
To register as a team or individual for the Lowcountry Heart Walk, go to www.LowcountrySCHeartWalk.org. Attendees can run or walk the one mile loop or the 5k route. Remember we are not only raising funds, we are raising heart beats!
