Below is a link to a very special Patriots Point holiday video. This Christmas will mark 50 years since the USS Yorktown (CV-10) recovered the Apollo 8 space capsule in 1968 after its crew successfully orbited the moon for the first time in history.

The 1968 feat was broadcast to billions of people across the world. Of the many transmissions to Earth during the six-day mission, the Christmas Eve broadcast is the one many people remember most. Astronauts Jim Lovell, Frank Borman and Bill Anders read the first 11 verses of the Bible’s book of Genesis and then closed by wishing those back on Earth a very merry Christmas.
With the help of Capt. Jim Lovell 50 years after that iconic television broadcast, the Patriots Point team has recreated the broadcast using staff members and veterans who work and volunteer aboard the USS Yorktown today. We hope you enjoy this special Apollo 8 edition of the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum holiday video!
