When Tish Mills Kirk of Tish Mills Interiors based in Atlanta was looking at growth opportunities for her firm, she decided that it was best to grow from within and look back to her roots. Being based in the South, having a background and family history in development, as her father was one of major developers of Hilton Head Island having developed Palmetto Dunes Resort and Shelter Cove, along with a recent project in Hilton Head reminded her that the Low Country was a natural way to expand.
“The Low Country is home. Everything about it including the color palette and connection to nature has always been one of the major influences in my design aesthetic. I spent my childhood playing on the dunes in the surf of Kiawah and Hilton Head Island. It was such a free part of life, nothing to hold back my imagination and curiosity of colors and natural surroundings. Being back has reminded me of how I spent so much of my childhood exploring the streets and history of Charleston and Savannah. It is time to come home.”
Tish Mills Interiors has opened a second office in Charleston, South Carolina. This office will be serving clients in not only Charleston but also the Coastal islands including Kiawah, Hilton Head as well as Sea Island and St Simons. Anna Hanger, a designer from the Atlanta office, is also a South Carolina native that has returned home and will oversee the new office. The homecoming will blend her knowledge of her hometown, with the experience she received in Atlanta to create beautiful homes while under the guidance of Tish Mills Kirk.
"I'm so excited to be back home in South Carolina. It has been a wonderful opportunity to learn how to create harmonious spaces with Tish in Atlanta. We look forward to bringing our fresh and peaceful vision to the Charleston area,” states Anna Hanger.
For over 20 years, Tish Mills Kirk has been dedicated to creating highly peaceful spaces that are a true reflection of the homeowner’s personality and way of living. Headquartered in Atlanta, the firm has worked on projects throughout the Southeast and West Coast, as well as in China and Africa, all showcasing her unique aesthetic of creating balanced spaces that are seamless from interior to exterior by using a mix of colors and materials that reflect the surroundings. Projects have been featured in magazines such as Modern Luxury, Elle Décor, Traditional Homes, WSJ, Interiors, Atlanta Homes & Lifestyle, and Atlanta Magazine and abundantly recognized with 26 ASID Design Excellence Awards, three National ASID awards, and most recently a Luxe Magazine Red Award. Tish was also a founding member of both the Design Leadership Network and Leaders of Design Council as community and industry relations are important to her philosophy.
“We couldn’t be more excited to become an active member of the Low Country community. It is a real coming home for both Anna and me. With all the building going on in the area the timing is a match for one of the firm’s strengths of working as a team with builders, developers and architects. Our favorite projects have been those where there is a collaborative partnership,” states Mills. “We can’t wait to get to work, especially in collaborating on ground up construction or renovations, both of which we are most sought after for work.”
This was the next logical way for the firm to expand their base. Many of their existing clientele have second homes in the region, so it makes sense to have a team on the ground. Their focus will be to build relationships with local industry partners, design organizations and most importantly to the community. “A strong foundation is needed to for us to bring to the clients the same thoughtful, hands on approach where we work with the homeowner to bring their vision to life. We’re ready to bring that to the Low Country,” says Mills.
