BERKELEY COUNTY, SC — The Berkeley Chamber of Commerce wants to help business owners and employees be prepared if an active shooter ever walks through the door. The Berkeley Chamber is offering an Active Shooter Seminar on Friday, September 23, at SCRA - Applied Technologies Center in Summerville, SC.
Active shooter incidents are often unpredictable. How individuals respond to quickly escalating chaos can play an integral role in mitigating the impact of an intense situation. FBI data for 2021 shows that over 50% of all active shooter scenarios occurred in places of business or commerce. Elaine Morgan, CEO of the Chamber, said “no one wants to think a tragedy can happen near them, but that being prepared is essential. “We’re not saying it will occur," Morgan said. "But the more people who are prepared and ready to respond, the safer we all are.”
The presentation will run from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and will be led by Special Agent with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Josh Wallace. Wallace has been in law enforcement for fifteen years and is currently assigned to the Active Shooter and CCTA Training Unit. He has worked and trained with personnel from Aurora, Platt Canyon, Sandy Hook, Townville, Parkland, and many others.
Advance registration for the training is required, and capacity is limited. For additional information or to register to attend, contact the Berkeley Chamber at 843-761-8238 or 843-577-9549 or visit us online at https://berkeleysc.org.
