BIGGBY® COFFEE SOUTH CAROLINA SUPPORTS SUICIDE AWARENESS
BIGGBY® COFFEE South Carolina Raises $1,400 for Suicide Awareness
East Lansing, MI, December 18, 2018–As part of BIGGBY® COFFEE’s Giving is Getting Campaign, BIGGBY® COFFEE owner/operators and Home Office band together to raise money for suicide awareness. Aaron Marley, owner of three BIGGBY® COFFEE locations in South Carolina encouraged his staff and community to participate in this event, raising a total of $1,400 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
BIGGBY® COFFEE’s philosophy to exist to love people was matched by the efforts they made through their Mental Health Awareness Campaign that took place in 10 states raising awareness for suicide prevention during the month of September, Suicide Awareness month.
Notably, all three South Carolina BIGGBY® COFFEE locations participated in this cause. Marley welcomed AFSP South Carolina suicide prevention advocates into his coffee shops as a support system to people struggling with suicidal thoughts and/or those who’ve been affected by suicide. These advocates opened their arms and hearts as a safe place to talk about suicidal feelings and encourage those ones who have been impacted by suicide in a safe judgement-free zone. Along with that, customers had the opportunity to purchase life ring wall badges in an effort to raise money for this national organization.
“The support received from our customers was tremendous and didn’t surprise me at all,” Marley said. “…we have the best customers in the world…. It was a rewarding experience and became a mission to educate our community and raise awareness for this preventable disease.”
The money raised by BIGGBY® COFFE South Carolina has been donated to AFSP South Carolina and will be used to help fund the South Carolina chapter, pay AFSP wages, and fund local campaigns like Community Walks. In an effort to continue suicide awareness, BIGGBY® COFFEE encourages you to learn more about AFSP and donate as you are able.
BIGGBY® COFFEE, East Lansing, Mich.-based, was started with a single store on March 15, 1995. One year later, and on the cusp of opening a second location, Bob Fish and Michael McFall, on a handshake and $4,000, decided to franchise the concept. BIGGBY® COFFEE’s cultural values of Make Friends, Have Fun, B Yourself, and Share Great Coffee help coffee-lovers and the coffee-curious alike benefit from a less pretentious and fun approach to the standard gourmet cafe paradigm. Besides connoisseur-worthy drinks with pronounceable names like Teddy Bear® and Caramel Marvel®, BIGGBY® baristas provide a unique experience focused on brightening their customer’s day and supporting them in building a life they love. The “Big ‘B’” on the orange background caught on, and today BIGGBY® COFFEE has 277 cafes open or under contract across 10 states including: Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Florida, Texas, and New Jersey. In 2018, BIGGBY® launched an Area Representative Program and currently has 8 area representatives in 6 states.
