Charleston, SC (October 31, 2018) -- Board-certified cardiac and thoracic surgeon Karen A. Gersch, MD has joined James Benner, MD at Cardiovascular and Thoracic Associates and the medical staff of Trident Health. Among her specialties Dr. Gersch performs minimally invasive robotic-assisted cardiac and thoracic surgery, which include bypass surgery, valve surgery, lung surgery and tumor removal from the chest. She also performs traditional open heart, lung and chest surgeries.
Dr. Gersch earned her medical degree at East Carolina University School of Medicine where she trained with pioneer heart surgeon Randolph Chitwood, MD. She completed both her internship and residency at Creighton University Medical Center.
Dr. Gersch completed an additional residency at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She earned a fellowship at East Carolina Cardiovascular Institute – East Carolina University.
