Chamber PAC Backs Strong Leadership for Dorchester County District 2 School Board

Charleston, SC - The Charleston Metro Chamber Political Action Committee (CMCC PAC) is pleased to announce its candidate endorsements for four seats on the Dorchester County School District 2 Board. After reviewing questionnaires completed by six candidates and interviewing the same six candidates, the PAC is endorsing the following candidates for Dorchester County School District 2:

  • Justin Farnsworth, an incumbent, is a wealth advisor who volunteers as a football coach and serves on the Joint Base Charleston Honorary Commanders Program. Mr. Farnsworth will use his “talent, resources and leadership to make a positive impact” and to “prepare our children for whatever lies in front of them."
  • Gail Hughes, an almost 12-year veteran of the School Board, has served as Chairman and Secretary. Gail is the owner of a small business and is a graduate of Summerville High School. Ms. Hughes is “very proud and humbled to have been allowed to be a part” of the School Board and “to be able to give back to something that has given so much to her family.”
  • Brian Mitchum, an incumbent, is a business banker who graduated from James Island High School and is active in Rotary Club. Mr. Mitchum is passionate about public schools and wants “to continue to be a part of the decision-making process that leads our top performing district into the future.”
  • Tanya Robinson, also an incumbent, is a former teacher who is active in the PTA, both locally and state-wide. Ms. Robinson has “a deep love for children (even teenagers!) …a great respect for teachers…and desire to be a voice and a vote in advocating for their success.”

The candidate endorsements are based upon alignment with the Chamber’s core values in support of high-quality public education for all students.  “All of the candidates endorsed are committed to promoting outstanding student outcomes that prepare our children for meaningful and valued careers,” said Chappy McKay, chairman of the CMCC PAC.
