(CHARLESTON, SC. Dec. 4, 2018) Tia Clark's Go Crabbing with a Charleston Native Airbnb Experience was recently recognized as one of the top Airbnb Experiences in the world. As a result, Clark was flown to the West Coast and asked to speak before the Airbnb board of directors and honored for being an exceptional host. She also was able to meet and spend time with the company's three other Experience honorees, from Japan, Italy, and South Africa.
“They made us feel very special, like what we are doing is very important,” Clark says. “I feel honored that they chose me. It just feels like something out of movie.”
After local and regional press spread the word about Clark's noteworthy business Casual Crabbing with Tia LLC, the stories began to trend on Google News over Thanksgiving weekend.
Born in Downtown Charleston, Clark began crabbing as a form of therapy and exercise last year but turned what she calls her happy place into a business in early 2018. Now, her Airbnb Experience 'Go Crabbing with a Charleston Native' has given her the chance to share her joy of crabbing with scores of both locals and tourists during an immersive, educational, and fun 2.5 hour adventure.
“Before crabbing, I had a wall up — and then I started crabbing, and I found out that everything I told myself for years is not true,” Clark says. “Every mental block I was putting up for other people, I was putting up for myself, too. Now, crabbing comes and I have this thing that when I share it with people, it changes me and it changes them. It’s just a special, unique thing.”
The Experience has led to not just notoriety but also new friends. Clark has even been known to prepare a crab boil for guests, who say Clark is "an undeniable gem of the town" and "a joy to be with."
As the Southern weather cools and the crabs move to deeper waters, Clark is currently preparing to launch her 2019 season in March, with availability to take two groups of six to her favorite, picturesque Lowcountry docks almost every day.
