Charleston Storage Business Hosts Thanksgiving Food Drive From Nov through November 24
1 out of 5 Local Children Rely on Soup Kitchens and Pantries for Dinner
What: In response to the increased need throughout the area due to COVID-19 and unemployment, Charleston-based UNITS Moving and Portable Storage owner Michael McAlhaney is hosting a multi-week food drive starting now and continuing until Tuesday November 24th when they will drop off the food. McAlhaney and his staff are committed to filling up a UNITS container with food, collecting hundreds of meals worth of food for the Lowcountry Food Bank before Thanksgiving.
When/Where: From now through Tuesday November 24th, the Charleston-based UNITS Moving and Portable Storage (located at 680 Bear Swamp Rd, Charleston, SC 29455) will be hosting a food drive where locals can drop off canned goods and other non-perishable food throughout the week. UNITS will also pick up canned goods and other non-perishable food from their customers every time they pick up a container throughout the coming weeks.
Why: UNITS is committed to serving the Charleston community that has been so supportive of them since it launched in 2004.
• About 10% of adults, or more than 22 million Americans, say they sometimes or often didn’t have enough to eat in the last week , according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau Household Pulse Survey data.
• Feeding America reports food banks are feeding nearly 60% more people during the pandemic than they were this time last year, making donations and food drives absolutely critical! McAlhaney and his staff were inspired to launch this food drive to make an impact on the most-vulnerable in the area in an effective and COVID-safe manner.
