[RAVENEL] – Grab your running shoes and get ready to run wild around Caw Caw! The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) hosts its annual Where the Wild Things Run 5K run and walk on Saturday, March 2 at Caw Caw Interpretive Center.
Caw Caw Interpretive Center features an abundance of wildlife of many types. Runners and walkers will experience breathtaking views as they run through Caw Caw’s scenic trails. Participants may also encounter “a wild thing or two” while running through the interpretive center.
Caw Caw Interpretive Center is a 654-acre site in Ravenel that is rich in natural, cultural and historical resources. The scenic park features more than seven miles of trails with trailside exhibits, elevated boardwalks through wetlands, historic rice fields, remnants of a former tea farm, and wildlife habitats.
The race begins at Caw Caw Interpretive Center at 8:30 a.m. on March 2. An award ceremony with light food and beverages will follow the race. T-shirts are guaranteed for participants who register prior to Feb. 8. The 5K run and walk is for ages 10 and up, while ages 10-15 may participate if accompanied by an adult chaperone. Such chaperones do not require registration or participation in the race. Dogs and bicycles are not allowed at Caw Caw.
Online registration for Where the Wild Things Run opens on January 1 and will remain open through Feb. 28. If spaces are still available, late registration will be held on March 2 from 7 - 8 a.m. Registration fees are $32.
