Global real estate brand expands into South Carolina’s largest market under the leadership of respected local real estate professional Chris Cunniffe
New York, N.Y. and Charleston, S.C. [July 7, 2020] – Engel & Völkers today announced its expansion into Charleston, SC under the leadership of license partner Chris Cunniffe, who will also serve as managing broker. With deep roots in the Charleston community, Cunniffe has extensive commercial and residential experience. He previously served as president of the Commercial Investment Division of the Charleston Trident Association of REALTORS®, and currently sits on the board of two Charleston non-profit organizations. Cunniffe founded his brokerage, Harbor City Real Estate Advisors, LLC, in 2004 and has successfully led its growth over the past 16 years. Karla Leahy, who has consistently been the top producing residential real estate advisor at Harbor City, will be joining Cunniffe in the transition to Engel & Völkers Charleston. Now doing business as Engel & Völkers Charleston, Cunniffe and his team of licensed real estate advisors will continue to service key markets in the Charleston metro area, including Downtown Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Daniel Island, Sullivan’s Island, the Isle of Palms, West Ashley, James Island, Johns Island and North Charleston.
“Charleston has consistently ranked as the number one travel destination in the United States over the last ten years and it’s no surprise that many visitors decide to make a home in the charming seaside city,” said Anthony Hitt, president and CEO, Engel & Völkers Americas. “As the largest real estate market in South Carolina, Charleston has continued to grow as a draw for domestic and international buyers in search of warmer climates. It is a key market for our expansion, as this shop opening cements our presence in the region. With local market expertise that has been built over years of community engagement and superlative customer service, Chris and his team are the perfect partners to lead Engel & Völkers Charleston.”
The new 2,200 square foot real estate shop, currently under construction, is located at 10 Shem Drive in Mount Pleasant, in the heart of the Coleman Blvd. business district and attached to the Brookgreen Town Center. Until the new shop opens this fall, Engel & Völkers Charleston will operate from a temporary space at 510 Live Oak Drive in Mount Pleasant. Charleston’s housing inventory is as varied as the lifestyle offerings that are easily accessible to its residents; from historic Charleston single houses in downtown, to classic mid-century ranch homes, high-rise condominiums and an eclectic mix of beach property offerings, including the artsy, surfer-friendly Folly Beach, lavish properties on Sullivan’s Island, and top-tier beach resorts like Wild Dunes Resort and Kiawah Island Golf Resort. Charleston’s robust tourism economy also draws an array of both domestic and international buyers, especially those from Canada and the United Kingdom.
“As a top destination for buyers both home and abroad, we will benefit tremendously from being part of Engel & Völkers’ global brand and collaborative network of sophisticated real estate professionals,” said Cunniffe. “Consumers from around the world instantly recognize the clean and modern branding, immediately associating our shop with high-end service and personalized real estate experiences, values by which we have always conducted business. Engel & Völkers’ extensive global network further expands and enhances our reach and exposure, and as a respected luxury brand, will open up opportunities for buyers and sellers in our market. Charleston is a mature market, but one that still has plenty of room to grow and modernize. As Engel & Völkers Charleston, we will be better placed to capitalize on these growth opportunities.”
