Experienced Business Leader Joins Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce

Charleston, SC - The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce announces the transition of Scott Barhight from Executive Fellow of the Charleston Metro Chamber to Associate Director of Advocacy. He reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Advocacy, Ian Scott.

Before joining the Chamber team, Scott worked as a Land Use Attorney for more than 35 years in the Baltimore metropolitan region and has extensive experience in project management, organizational leadership, business development, board development and strategic planning. In his new role as Associate Director of Advocacy, he will direct and execute activities, meetings, communications and strategic projects associated with advancing the missions of the Chamber's Business Advocacy committees.

"We are extremely happy to have Scott join our Government Relations team. His professional background and experience working with local governments on land use issues will help the Chamber team promote policy priorities including appropriate density and attainable housing efforts," said Ian Scott, Senior Vice President of Advocacy for the Charleston Metro Chamber. "Scott gives us added capacity to engage members and committees to advance strategic projects and develop innovative policy solutions."

Scott is extremely proud to have been Board Chairman of MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, a hospital located in eastern Baltimore County, when a new “state of the art” patient tower was built. Having the opportunity to serve his hometown in that way was the most rewarding professional moment of his life. He has served on many non-profit boards and committees and hopes to use his knowledge and skills to positively make a difference in the Charleston region. His background and accomplishments throughout his career have made the Chamber a natural fit for him as he enjoys doing work that creates value and makes a difference in the area, helping to drive solutions for a thriving community.

Scott lives in Daniel Island with his wife of almost 40 years, Yvonne, who serves as the Dean of Lower School for Charleston Collegiate. They are looking forward to settling into Charleston as they complete construction on their new home and enjoying the best restaurants, beaches and golf courses in the world.
