Collecting donations & raising over $6,000 for Charleston Promise Neighborhood
DANIEL ISLAND, SC March 18, 2020 – On March 14, 2020, 15 participants set out to complete a 24 Hour Challenge inspired by Thom Shea’s book, Unbreakable and to support a local non-¬profit. They walked for 24 hours on Daniel Island stopping no more than 10 minutes at a time. The 24 Hour Challenge supports the local non-¬‐profit, Charleston Promise Neighborhood.
The 24 Hour Challenge was Gaia Fit’s first adventure under its new business model and mission. Gaia Fit empowers others to move with purpose through creating adventures and experiences that inspire and serve our local community. Gaia Fit hopes to unite the health and fitness community of Daniel Island and the greater Charleston area for more Move, Inspire & Serve events!
The lessons learned and challenges overcome by walking for 24 hours went beyond all participants’ expectations. Expecting the physical and mental challenge, the group was humbled and filled with gratitude by the community’s support in their efforts. The support of the community helped to challenge participants to see how we have the power to give so much more than we realize. The ripple effect is a beautiful thing. When a community bonds together, one realizes how every act no matter how small can make a huge difference.
Participants were able to join as individuals or split the 24 hours with a partner or team of 3-¬4. Individual participants covered over 55 miles with one participant, Tony Deering of Pegasus Steel covering 78.6 miles, raising $5,911 for Charleston Promise Neighborhood within the 24 hours.
If one could not participate, but wanted to support Charleston Promise Neighborhood, they did so in several different ways:
• Help Spread the Word on the 24 Hour Challenge
• Donate Directly to Charleston Promise Neighborhood
• Host a Bake Sale and donate proceeds
• Collect items on the most needed list and bring to a collection location
• Donate needed materials or services for the 24 Hour Challenge
We want to give a special thanks to all of our brave participants, individuals in the community that shared their support and to the following local businesses, Next Level Training, The Rehab Docs, Blondie’s Bagels & Café, Island Expressions, Revive Yoga, The Stretch Effect, Envy Salon, Made2Move, The Bar Method, and Mary Patterson with Carolina One Real Estate.
