Good Friends of the Lowcountry is a Charleston-based nonprofit that raises funds to provide one-time, limited monetary assistance to low-income families who reside within the Lowcountry. The nonprofit works with social workers to find needs of crisis within our community and provides last chance resources when all other options have been exhausted, working as a 'good friend' stepping in to help a member of our community.
During the annual fundraising event, more than 300 women gather to share in the joy of helping others. A sit-down meal will be provided, as well as fellowship, true stories from recipients and a silent auction.
Last year’s event raised more than $100,000, which provided assistance for 118 women in need, including help with housing, medical expenses and utility bills, among others. Because of Good Friends of the Lowcountry, 47 women and their families avoided homelessness this year.
The nonprofit ran out of funds in September and hopes that this year's event will provide funds for all of 2019.
Registration for the 2018 luncheon is covered by an annual membership fee of $65. Seating for the event is reserved and limited. To register for Good Friends of the Lowcountry’s luncheon, go online to https://www.goodfriendsofthelowcountry.org/registration/.
