HALOS has been honored as nonprofit of the month by the City of Charleston Division of Business Services. HALOS provides critical support to kinship families in the tri-county area so that abused and neglected children can stay with extended family instead of entering the foster care system. Executive Director Kim Clifton says, "We are excited that this honor shines a light on a immense community issue that is often overlooked. In South Carolina, 74,000 children live in kinship care, compared to 4,600 in state custody." HALOS is the only organization focused on the unique needs of kinship families. HALOS helps kinship caregivers access community resources to meet basic needs for the children, provides trauma-informed parenting education, and offers intensive case management to families with complex needs.
