November 9, 2021 -- Charleston, SC -- The Lowcountry Food Bank recently announced that Hendrick Automotive Group donated $50,000 on October 27 to help feed food-insecure neighbors in the Charleston Tri-County.
During the donation ceremony, Hendrick Automotive Group revealed the results of its year-long, employee-fueled fight against hunger. The event included a special appearance by NASCAR driver Kyle Larson, who conducted a three-city tour in recognition of Hendrick's partnership with the Lowcountry Food Bank and employee fundraising efforts in Charlotte, Charleston and Raleigh as part of the Hendrick Cares social responsibility initiative that drives a legacy of caring for others and a commitment to teamwork.
Additionally, Hendrick Automotive Group teammates from its Charleston and North Charleston dealerships donated their time on November 5th and packed hundreds of food boxes for food-insecure Lowcountry neighbors.
"We are dedicated to serving our neighbors in need, and we are truly thankful for the opportunities the people of Charleston and North Charleston have given us throughout the years," said Steve Strickland, Hendrick Lexus Charleston general manager.
Hendrick Automotive Group has donated funds and time to Lowcountry Food Bank for eight years. They have hosted more than 30 Easter and Thanksgiving meal drives for Lowcountry neighbors who would not otherwise have access to holiday meals. Through holiday meal drives, and through virtual food drives during the Covid-19 pandemic, Hendrick teammates have purchased, assembled and distributed more than 600,000 meals to our neighbors. In addition to their commitment to distributing holiday meals, Hendrick teammates have packed thousands of food boxes and raised more than $118,000 in funding to support the mission of Lowcountry Food Bank: To lead the fight against hunger in the 10 coastal counties of South Carolina.
"Hendrick Automotive Group always makes an impact for our neighbors who struggle with hunger," said Nick Osborne, Lowcountry Food Bank President and CEO. "They are here today packing food boxes that will be distributed soon to our neighbors. We are grateful to Hendrick Automotive Group and their employees for their continued generosity."
