Historic Sale of the Morton Waring House, Circa 1803
Charleston, SC – Greg Atkinson and Debbie Fisher of Handsome Properties, Inc. represented the seller, the Catholic Diocese of Charleston in the sale of the historic Morton Waring House at 119 Broad Street that closed Wednesday, August 22, 2018.
Since the 1960’s the Charleston Diocese used the property for administrative offices and to house visiting priests. The Charleston Diocese no longer needed the property after building a new facility and wanted to consolidate their Charleston area administrative offices.
"It is an honor to represent the Charleston Diocese in the sale of such a grand and historically significant property,” said Greg Atkinson.
Originally constructed in 1803, this historic property sits on an impressive 0.68-acre lot, right in the heart of downtown Charleston, SC. This property consists of a main house measuring approximately 8,444 square feet, carriage house with approximately 2,444 square feet, and a storage shed. The main house boasts original details, 10’ plus ceilings, and a curved ballroom. There are approximately 14 off-street parking spaces and a large well-manicured garden. The property is surrounded by a brick wall on the west and south sides and has a grand entry gate and wrought iron fence along Broad Street. The beautiful marble façade was added sometime around 1900.
“It was an exciting opportunity to represent the Catholic Diocese to market and sell this important piece of Charleston’s history. It was no surprise when we received multiple offers within a few days of listing the property. There was a lot of interest and the sales price reflects the strong value of this property. The Charleston market continues to flourish and Handsome Properties is proud to be a part of this dynamic strength in the marketplace,” said Debbie Fisher, Broker in Charge.
