Community Project 2019-2020
By Denise Marie Fugo
Charleston, SC--Charleston Area Senior Citizens’ Services, Inc. would like to thank the The Junior League of Charleston for awarding a Community Project grant of $3,200, which contributes towards purchases for the All Are Welcome Breakfast Cafe; serving a healthy hot breakfast to Ansonborough Senior Residents, Congregate Diners, and Homeless Seniors Monday through Friday 9:30am-10:30am. 60% of these seniors suffer with Diabetes.
In addition to the financial award, eight (8) Junior League of Charleston committee members will volunteer and assist in the setup, serving and breakdown of breakfast June 1, 2019 through May 31, 2020.
“... Roughly 10,000 Baby Boomers will turn 65 today, and about 10,000 more will cross that threshold every day for the next 19 years.” * 74% of these seniors do not have retirement resources to sustain them over the next 20 to 30 years. 56% have less than $10,000 in retirement savings. They may meet their housing or rent payment, however, budgeting for food, medicine, transportation or utilities will be a constant challenge. *The Pew Research Center, 2018
