Krystal Klear Productions Will Host a Cultural Heritage Event in Honor of Black History Month

Charleston, SC — Krystal Klear Productions will be hosting its first-ever Black History Soul Meet and Eat on Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 12:00-4:00 p.m. at the Olde Village Community Building (4820 Jenkins Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405). Attendees can enjoy Lowcountry eats, networking, expressive art forms, vendors, black history trivia, and prizes. Featured artists include the Speak Freely Foundation, Adande African Drum and Dance Company, Dorothy Montgomery, and Fiona Varner. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 10 and under. They can be purchased on Eventbrite under Black History Soul Meet and Eat.

This event is purposed to celebrate Black History Month. It is suggested that attendees wear casual African attire. The featured artists represent different generations and artistic backgrounds. The Speak Freely Foundation (SFF) was founded in 2007 by Carlos Johnson. SFF is a non-profit organization that mentors youth through poetry and boxing. They will perform poetry at the event. Some proceeds will benefit the organization. Krystal Klear Productions Founder and CEO Krystal Yeadon stated “I have interacted with the children myself and witnessed the founder of Speak Freely Foundation pour out his heart helping children through poetry and boxing training, the same two outlets that he looked to in order to lead a better life in his younger days. He does it at no cost to the parents, so I want to give back to the organization to help the children get new supplies and other necessities for poetry and boxing.”

Under the direction of Jesse Thrower, Adande African Drum and Dance Company performs at schools, festivals and other events throughout the Lowcountry. They will bring the rhythm of African drum and dance alive at this event. Dorothy Montgomery, also known as “The Fabric Chronicler,” is an author, educator, lecturer, musician, quilter, and storyteller. Her quilts have been exhibited locally, regionally and internationally. She conducts presentations at schools, churches and libraries. She will provide a quilt display and storytelling for this event. Fiona Varner was recently added to the list of featured artists. She is a Christian songwriter and recording artist who has won several indie artist gospel awards. At the event, Varner will sing “Soul Survivor,” a positive song written by Rejoice America Radio President Reggie Richardson also known as “Brother Reggie.”

The Black History Soul Meet and Eat will be a family-friendly event that people of all ages can attend. Learning will not end with trivia at the event. Each child will leave with a black history activity book while supplies last. The books contain coloring pages, other educational activities and bios about historical African American figures.
