Born and raised in the Philadelphia area by a successful entrepreneurial family, John learned early on that if you wanted to be successful, you have to put the work in every day. After college, John followed his fiancé and soon to be wife, Karen, to the New York City area, where he began to invest in multi-family real estate. While Karen quickly ascended the ranks in asset management on Wall Street, John grew a portfolio of multi-family and single-family rental properties. In 2005, when their first daughter was born, the young family decided to move to the Charleston area where John’s parents had retired and two sisters had also relocated. Karen was able to telecommute for her asset management career and John continued to manage his NYC area portfolio from Charleston. John managed the portfolio through the Great Recession and as the values returned to pre-recession heights, he 1031 exchanged the portfolio into investments in the Charleston area. John now manages a portfolio of residential, commercial and retail properties. John has now joined David Seay as a partner and licensed sales agent in order to help clients buy, sell and manage their real estate and business holdings and take a leadership role in growing the brokerage division.
John stated in a recent interview, “When David suggested I go out and get my license and join his company, I was hesitant at first. I didn’t really see any reason why after 18 years as a successful investor that I should take this extra step. It didn’t take too much persuasion from David to join him when he described how it could benefit his clients, his business our families other driven agents and the community. Already close personal friends and working alongside David at Souldier Week for Boys Camps, there is a tremendous amount of trust and respect between us so it became a very logical fit. I look forward to helping David grow the real estate and business brokerage at Seay Development. I want to put my knowledge and experience to work for all current and future clients as well as continue to grow a portfolio of local income producing investments. In his personal time, John enjoys spending time with his wife, Karen, and their three children Maggie, Jack and Teddy. The Teffeau family enjoys boating, watersports, snow skiing and outdoor activities with family and friends. John is also a youth volunteer basketball coach and a volunteer leader at Souldier Week for Boys each year and helped facilitate the youth camps involvement in multiple Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parades in Charleston. John is a former college athlete and his family attends St. Benedict’s Church in Mt. Pleasant.
