Leadership Dorchester 2018 Class Announces Partnership with Summerville Miracle League for Service Project

Improving accessibility and safety for children and adults with special needs

Summerville, SC (July 24, 2018) – The Leadership Dorchester Class of 2018 is honored to announce a partnership with the Summerville Miracle League for the 2018 Leadership Dorchester service project.

Founded in 2008, the Summerville Miracle League is committed to enhancing the lives of people with special needs through our favorite national pastime of baseball. Each year more than 200 children and adults with special needs have the opportunity to play baseball with a volunteer partner at the Summerville Miracle League field, located at the Saul Alexander Park, 615 South Laurel Street in Summerville.

In the past 10 years, the Summerville Miracle League has helped more than 400 families create wonderful memories, with the support of hundreds of volunteers from our greater Dorchester community.

“Every child, no matter their disability, deserves the chance to play baseball,” said Michael Lisle, chair of the Summerville Miracle League board. “We are passionate about bringing together our athletes and their families in a positive and enriching way.”

Now in its 10th year, Leadership Dorchester is an 11-month leadership program hosted by the Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce. From Dorchester Paws to Colonial Dorchester to the Home of Hope, Leadership Dorchester has made a lasting impact in our greater Dorchester community by spearheading renovations, fundraising, rebranding, community visibility and more for the organizations selected as part of the annual service project.
This year’s Leadership Dorchester project will focus on improving accessibility and safety at the Summerville Miracle League park for families and guests. The project includes building a wheelchair-accessible press box on the field and installing Wi-Fi, as well as additional projects this fall as fundraising efforts continue.
