Liberty Senior Living Announces The Peninsula of Charleston
Amenity-rich luxury independent living residences planned for 2026 in Downtown Charleston

Today, Liberty Senior Living and Evening Post Industries announced The Peninsula of Charleston, a proposed luxury independent living residence in downtown Charleston featuring upscale amenities, concierge services and a full complement of healthcare.

Located on the terminus of King and Columbus streets in the Courier Square District, The Peninsula of Charleston will be the only life plan community in downtown Charleston and has a minimum age requirement of 62. The project, which features more than 140 residences ranging from 700-3,500 square feet, is expected to break ground in 2024 with completion anticipated for 2026.

“The Peninsula of Charleston’s premier King Street location, with views of the Ravenel Bridge and the Cannonborough/Elliotborough neighborhood, presents a rare opportunity for residents to experience a vibrant and social lifestyle in a walkable downtown setting,” said Paige Canaday Crone, director of sales and marketing for The Peninsula of Charleston. “With maintenance and concierge services provided for worry-free living and access to nearby restaurants, shopping and arts and cultural establishments, owners will enjoy flexibility with the opportunity to focus on the passions that enrich their lives and their families’.”

Another distinctive feature of The Peninsula of Charleston is it allows individual ownership of each unit providing members the opportunity to sell their residence or designate it as an inheritance. The project will be the only one of this kind in Charleston, as there are only twenty others like it in the entire U.S.

Designed by a renowned New York-based architect, Robert A.M. Stern Architects (RAMSA), in partnership with Charleston-based LS3P, The Peninsula of Charleston is modeled after the circa-1792 Charleston Orphan House, which was demolished in 1956 and honors the city’s architectural history.

“The Peninsula of Charleston will reshape the King and Columbus intersection, allowing future residents to be a part of the renaissance of Upper King,” said Ron Owens, chief executive officer and president of Evening Post Industries. “This project pays tribute to the community that lived and worked in the neighborhood and is a focal point in master plan for Courier Square district featuring residential, office and retail spaces.”

All residences will feature expansive balconies, spacious kitchens with custom cabinets, large bathrooms with granite counters, single or dual HVAC systems, minimum 10-foot ceilings, zero entry glassed showers, top-of-the-line appliances with options for personalization and customization. Additional plans for the amenity-rich project include reserved underground parking and valet services, a saltwater pool, comfortable locker rooms, a state-of-the-art fitness center, card rooms, gathering spaces, outdoor gardens, a salon and spa and more. In addition, The Peninsula of Charleston will feature both fine dining and casual dining experiences and a beautiful bar.

“One signature element of The Peninsula of Charleston will be the upscale amenities and programming that are exclusive to residents and expand on The Peninsula of Charleston’s nearby arts and cultural offerings, including fitness activities, outside speakers, art classes and more,” said Development Director for Liberty Senior Living, Patrick Allen. “We are also looking forward to expanding our relationship with the Medical University of South Carolina for physicians’ services and clinics, and the development was designed so that residences and healthcare services are in the same building.”

The Peninsula of Charleston will provide residents the reassurance of care with assisted living, skilled nursing and memory care service options.

Liberty Senior Living will oversee residential sales from The Peninsula of Charleston gallery, which will soon open at 573 King Street. Families will be able to begin reserving their new homes in the second quarter of 2023. For inquiries, visit https://www.thepeninsulaofcharleston.com/.
