CHARLESTON, S.C. – November 4, 2019 - Lowcountry Land Trust president and CEO Ashley Demosthenes has been awarded the 2019 Ambassador award by the Land Trust Alliance, for consistently and effectively advocating for a broad range of federal policies supporting conservation.
Each year the Land Trust Alliance recognizes one individual who deliver the messages of the importance of conservation to our nation’s political leaders. In his presentation remarks, Land Trust Alliance president and CEO Andrew Bowman shared, “As a first-rate advocate, Ashley has supported and assisted the Alliance in advocating for a broad range of land conservation and environmental policy priorities In particular, she has been instrumental in our fight to end abusive syndicated conservation easements. From engaging her board on the matter to assisting the Alliance by publishing an op-ed in the Post & Courier, Ashley has worked incredibly hard to forge relationships with her Congressional delegation and alert them of syndicator activities in the state.”
Lowcountry Land Trust board chair, Scott Wallinger echoed Bowman’s remarks. “I am so grateful for Ashley’s leadership of land conservation locally and her willingness to influence conservation policy on the national stage.”
Ashley became Lowcountry Land Trust’s first Director of Conservation in 2013, managing the conservation and land stewardship program for the Trust. In March of 2015, Ashley was promoted to President & CEO. She oversees the entire operation of the Trust with a special emphasis on strategic conservation leadership, fundraising and public policy. She is a Liberty Fellow from the class of 2019, serves on the Land Trust Alliance Leadership Council, and leads the South Carolina Land Trust Network as Board President.
