Lowcountry Local First, a nonprofit that cultivates an economy anchored in local ownership, is proud to welcome a new Engagement Coordinator and to announce its 2017 Board of Directors. Alex Pappas recently joined the team to work closely with the organization’s membership base and to assist with ongoing event coordination. Pappas comes with a background in fundraising and marketing management, most recently for the College of Charleston’s School of Business. She also enjoys the creative side of life, dabbling in photography, painting, wedding planning, and being a “tourist” in her own city.
The organization’s slate of Board of Directors has also expanded to welcome four new members in 2017. The board includes talented and passionate business leaders and community members who recognize the importance of choosing local in order to keep the Lowcountry economy strong and its culture unique. With varied backgrounds and areas of expertise, from marketing and public relations to legal and finance to creative community engagement, this year’s slate of directors is poised to further the mission of the organization during a time of unprecedented area growth.
Lowcountry Local First is celebrating its first decade of “loving local” and supporting local-independent businesses and entrepreneurs through various public campaigns and programming. The organization’s executive director and staff look to the board of directors for guidance, input and active involvement throughout the year.
“I am thrilled to once again lead such a dynamic group of individuals that represent the Board of Directors for Lowcountry Local First in 2017,” said Board Chair Jennifer Murray. “We have a busy year ahead but we’re excited to pause and celebrate ten years and honor those who have been integral in getting the organization this far.”
