CHARLESTON, SC, November 16, 2023 - MassMutual SC partnered with James Doran Companies and the Humanities Foundation to support the Lowcountry Turkey Day Giveaway on November 13.
MassMutual’s $5,000 donation helped provide Thanksgiving meals for approximately 400 Charleston-area families through the Humanities Foundation Market Place program.
Volunteers from the local MassMutual office worked alongside other community members to fill food boxes with everything for the holiday meal – including the turkey.
Food insecurity is critical in the Lowcountry. According to the Lowcountry Food Bank, the food insecurity rate in 2020 was 12.5% of all residents in the 10 counties they serve and 18.2% of children in the area. MassMutual SC has adopted food security as its community service focus for 2023 – 24. Volunteers from the agency partner with the Lowcountry Food Bank on a quarterly basis.
