Mount Pleasant, SC - The Medical Society of South Carolina has awarded a grant to the therapeutic counseling community of Life Resources for trauma-focused training. Life Resources is a nonprofit, mental health organization that is devoted to providing life transforming resources that foster emotional, spiritual, and relational wellness. This holistic approach is achieved through healing, equipping, and training from a foundationally Christian perspective that integrates the best of Science under the authority of Scripture.
Based on recent studies by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)—as related to COVID-19—are on the rise. As a result, counseling communities are witnessing an increase in the symptoms of PTSD and Complex Trauma as directly related to the Pandemic. Even as COVID-19 cases decline, there remains an increased need in providing these specialized services for therapists and their clients.
In response to this growing need within the mental health community, Life Resources expanded its Mt. Pleasant office in 2021 to also include an office in North Charleston. This additional space and location better allow Life Resources to serve the Tri-County areas of Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester. Most important, this Grant will immediately benefit the therapists at Life Resources for the calendar year of 2022.
“This generous grant, from the Medical Society of South Carolina, will afford Life Resources the ability to meet the growing need for therapeutic services which require specialized training in trauma-focused care. Additionally, this grant assists us to continue our missional focus of providing exceptional, evidenced-based training for our licensed therapists to offer the most advanced services to our clients,” said Executive Director, Jacquie Atkins, M.S., LPC
Life Resources began in 2010 with the mission to provide integrated faith-based counseling for individuals, couples, and families, and coaching for the greater Charleston community. From the outset, it was apparent that many people could not afford the standard rates for these services, even those with moderate income. Most insurance panels do not cover marriage or family counseling. In 2014, Seed of Life, Inc was established as a nonprofit vehicle to provide scholarship funds to fulfill the mission of Life Resources to bring personal and relational healing, equipping for life success and professional training to the greater Charleston Community and beyond.
