CHARLESTON, South Carolina - Brad Van Liew is known around the world as the dominant American offshore single-handed sailboat racer who has won two of the three round-the-world races that he has participated in. Van Liew’s achievements on the water have been a source of great pride for the Charleston community, and have added to the long seafaring history of the area. Van Liew won a remarkable 10 of the 14 individual stages that made up the courses of the three globe circling races. For over 20 years, the California native proudly represented his adopted home of Charleston, South Carolina on the global stage and used his notoriety to ! contribute to the community in many ways. One notable contribution was to serve as Executive Director for the nonprofit that oversaw the construction of the Spirit of South Carolina tallship, an educational asset for the youth of South Carolina. Van Liew retired from competitive sailing in 2013 after a third back surgery.
More recently, Van Liew’s movements have been by air while working in aviation. He is an Airline Transport Pilot with instructor licenses. When he isn’t jetting around, he enjoys helping his wife Amy with her sales business and spending time with their three children on their Johns Island property.
Brad and Amy are now partnering to form Team Van Liew, a residential real estate sales team. Van Liew comes from a long lineage of real estate professionals and attended the University of Southern California, graduating with a Bachelor degree in Urban Studies and Planning, with a Certificate in Real Estate Development. Brad says, “I am really excited to be able to settle into working with Amy and to be able to finally sink my teeth into what I always thought would be my career path. It has been a fun and exciting 20 years, and I love where I live and look forward to sharing it with the world in a different way. Amy and I work well together and complement each other with our different skillsets and personalities. She is the daughter of a builder and loves making a house a home. I love taking what some see as an impossible situation and making it happen. Together we are going to be able to really offer our clients a lot of expertise, from a vast knowledge of the Lowcountry c! ommunity, negotiation and problem solving skills, and positive attitudes. Whether working with first time home buyers or savvy investors, we are really excited to help people realize that their real estate dreams can become reality.”
