Philanthropy and Community Leaders Mark New Era in Lowcountry Social Impact Support with Empower Charleston Event

Social Venture Partners Charleston, corporate and private donors gather to recognize selected nonprofits, announce more than $100k in funding and celebrate year of collaboration

CHARLESTON, SC – November 1, 2018 – Social Venture Partners Charleston (SVP), the local affiliate of a global venture philanthropy group committed to strengthening nonprofits through engaged investment, today announced its first ever Empower Charleston event to recognize and celebrate six area nonprofits selected for support.

“Empower Charleston is an opportunity for the community to learn about these amazing organizations, to join us in meaningful, long-term investment and to get a sense of how Social Venture Partners works for Charleston,” said SVP Charleston chairman Joe DeGroff. “At the same time, it is a celebration of the hard work and incredible success these organizations have already achieved in partnership with us throughout the year.”

Held at The Cedar Room in the Cigar Factory in downtown Charleston on Thursday, November 15 from 6-9pm, the event is open to the public and tickets are available online. The event will highlight six local organizations working with SVP Charleston to expand capacity and enhance services through more than $100,000 in funding divided between them. They include: Camp Happy DaysDee Norton Child Advocacy CenterDarkness 2 LightHALOSFresh Future Farmand Kids on Point. All six have progressed through a rigorous application and selection process, have benefited from hands-on mentorship and guidance from SVP Charleston partners, have identified specific goals to be achieved with community funding support and will present on progress to date at the event.
