Bright Ariail elected as new Save the Light Chairman

Save the Light, Inc. announced today that Ms. Bright Ariail was elected as the Chairman of the organization at the July meeting. Ms. Ariail was raised on James Island.

She holds a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University and earned her law degree from the University of South Carolina. She worked for Southern Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command during her first career. Bright then practiced at Rosen|Hagood in Charleston before opening her own law practice on James Island. She currently resides in her home on James Island that overlooks Clark Sound and the lighthouse. Ms. Ariail is an avid scuba diver, boater, lady angler and Coast Guard OUPV Captain. In addition to being a board member of Save the Light, she is on the Town of James Island Neighborhood Council and also a regular foster for several local animal rescues. She was elected unanimously in recognition of her participation and leadership in the annual events held by the group as well as her tireless dedication toward the mission of the group to preserve and restore the Morris Island lighthouse.

Al Hitchcock, the outgoing Chairman of Save the Light, remains on the board and will serve in various roles to continue their mission of saving the lighthouse. Al, one of the original founders of the group, has been the Chairman for the past 10 years, having led the group during the construction of the Phase II work in 2010, to install concrete mico-piles beneath the foundation. He was also the Technical Committee leader during the Phase I work, 2007-2008, with the US Army Corps of Engineers and supervised the onsite work by the contractors. Al also resides on Clark Sound with his wife Nancy in a home that overlooks the lighthouse.

Save the Light, Inc is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in 1999 by a group of concerned citizens who bought the lighthouse from a private individual, created a plan and vision to save it, deeded it to the state of South Carolina in 2000 and leased it back to serve as the custodian for its future. Their office is located at 36B Center Street on Folly Beach.
