Offering 143 Independent Living apartments ranging from 750 to 1750 square feet with 3 restaurants, South Bay’s amenities include an indoor pool with hot tub, full exercise and wellness studio as well as a beautiful grand foyer and multi-purpose entertainment venue. Liberty’s Shem Creek Health Center will share the
property and has an anticipated opening January 2019 offering Short-term Rehabilitation, Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living and Memory Care.
Ms. Furlough brings over 30 years of nursing and administration experience in geriatrics to her role at South Bay including acute, hospital-based, long term care and Continued Care Retirement Community (CCRC) settings. She received both Bronze and Silver level National Quality Awards for previous communities with Liberty Healthcare, and has served as a dispute resolution panelist for the Standards and Ethics Committee of the North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association for the last 6 years. Ms. Furlough served most recently as Executive Director for Liberty’s CCRC, Quail Haven Village, in Pinehurst, North Carolina and is excited about her relocation to Mount Pleasant and the opportunity presented by bringing a new luxury community online for Liberty.

South Bay and MUSC Health have signed a letter of intent for MUSC Health to provide medical direction, on-site clinical services, education and clinical support services. Mark A. Newbrough, M.D., Associate Professor and Section Head for Geriatrics at MUSC will serve as Medical Director and lead the geriatrics program at South Bay. “With South Bay being located so close to the MUSC Health East Cooper Medical Pavillion, we know there will be many ways to work together and prosper a fruitful relationship that will enhance the lives of our residents.”
