Starling Chevrolet Reaches its Goal for its “Drive to 55” Initiative Benefiting MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital

Charleston, S.C. - Local impact and a lasting effect: Two goals Starling Chevrolet strove to accomplish when setting out to complete their Drive to 55 Initiative. Over the course of 2021, Starling Chevrolet has raised over $55,000 benefiting Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, a place near to General Manager Joe Sarro’s heart.

“To hear the stories of the brave kids fighting at MUSC, and their parents right alongside them, it inspired something in all of us. You walk away asking, ‘what can I do?’ said Sarro. “Well, this is what we’ve done. We raised over $55,000 in support of these kids and these families, because no one should have to go what they are going through and have financial stress hanging over their head.”

Starling’s donation not only comes in monetary form, but also in a form even the youngest patients can appreciate. Earlier this year, Starling donated a pair of power wheels to the hospital, with hopes that patients will ride them to and from treatments.

“Kids are great at finding pockets of joy in any situation, said Sarro. “This was Starling’s way of facilitating that feeling.”

Mark Scheurer, M.D., ICCE Chief, MUSC Children’s & Women’s Health, appreciates the generosity Starling Chevrolet has shown to the Children’s Hospital with these donations.

“We are grateful for the thoughtful and successful Starling Chevrolet’s Drive to 55 campaign. The generosity will help impact the support we can provide our inpatients. This also shows that the community’s commitment to improving the lives of MUSC patients and families continues regardless of challenging times such as a pandemic. As for future initiatives, Starling has set its sights on multiple charities around the Lowcountry for 2022 and beyond.

“The change that these local organizations bring about for all sorts of different philanthropic avenues is something Starling wants to be a part of. Seeing how we were able to affect change with MUSC makes us excited for future possibilities,” said Sarro.
