Summerville Medical Center Presenting Sponsor for March for Babies 2019

(Charleston, SC, February 12, 2019)—March of Dimes and Summerville Medical Center are pleased to announce Summerville Medical Center as the Presenting Sponsor for the 2019 March for Babies walk in Charleston. Summerville Medical has been an avid supporter of March of Dimes for more than 10 years and are honored to donate $20,000 to this year’s event.

Lisa Valentine, CEO at Summerville Medical Center, and Karrie Powell, Chief Nursing Officer at Summerville Medical Center, will serve as the chairpersons for March for Babies 2019. As volunteer leaders, Valentine and Powell are committed to helping March of Dimes continue funding research and community programs to help more moms have full-term pregnancies and strong babies. March for Babies will take place on April 27, 2019 at Cannon Park.

“We are honored to work alongside March of Dimes for such an important cause,” commented Lisa Valentine. “At Summerville Medical Center we are dedicated to providing our Lowcountry moms and babies with the outstanding care and support they need through our advanced obstetric and neonatal services. By supporting March for Babies, we as a community have the ability to positively impact our newborns for a lifetime.”

“March of Dimes remains close to my heart due to my own experience with a premature daughter,” commented Karrie Powell, Chief Nursing Officer at Summerville Medical Center. “I am honored to serve as the co-chair for March for Babies 2019.”

“We’re thrilled to have Lisa Valentine and Karrie Powell serve as our local March for Babies chairs,” says Erin Herrmann, March of Dimes Executive Director. “These visionary women share our commitment to moms through every stage of the pregnancy journey, even when everything doesn’t go according to plan. Moms and babies are facing higher risks than ever before. March for Babies is a day for everyone to help change that by coming together in this vital community fundraising event.”

Lisa, Karrie and the Summerville Medical Center team encourage local businesses and community leaders to join them in support of March for Babies. “Each new life is precious,” says Lisa Valentine. “The number of babies born prematurely here in South Carolina and across the country is significant and March of Dimes is helping to change that.”
