That BIG Book Sale is This Weekend

Book lovers and bargain hunters are in for a real treat when the Charleston Friends of the Library (CFOL) returns to host its annual That BIG Book Sale presented by Crews Subaru. The Sale’s 41st year will be held this weekend May 19-21, 2023 at the Omar Shrine Auditorium, located at 176 Patriots Point Road, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

Their largest fundraiser of the year, the public can expect over 60,000 books in all categories including children’s, fiction, history, cooking, gardening, foreign language, classics, and more, all on sale with many priced as low as just $1. For the price of one movie ticket or one new hardback or paperback book, shoppers can walk out with a bag full of books and goodies that they can enjoy over and over again, or pass on to a friend all while benefiting the Charleston County Public Library (CCPL).

“Behind every thriving library is a hearty group of volunteers aptly named the Friends. Here at CCPL, the Friends of the Library book sales raise funds for library programs for our youth, teens, and adults to enjoy. So whether you’re a veteran book buyer or want to start a new collection, we hope you’ll come out for the That BIG Book Sale and support the Friends,” stated Angela Craig, Executive Director of CCPL. A special appearance from CCPL’s friendly mascot Owlbert is expected Saturday morning 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Carin Jorgensen, CFOL’s current President remarked, “It is an honor to serve on the Board of CFOL. The Board members, sorting room volunteers and book sale volunteers are working so hard to make our book sales successful. This is especially noticeable with TBBS, our signature sale. Their hard work pays off in how CFOL is able to support Charleston County Libraries. Our sales have become more successful each year, and I’m confident that trend will continue because of the teamwork involved and the community’s patronage.“

Dates and Times: Thursday, May 18 – Sunday, May 21:
Members Only Pre-Sale – Thursday, May 18 | 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Open to the public – Friday, May 19 | 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m
Open to the public – Saturday, May 20 | 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Open to the public – Sunday, May 21 | 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Checks, cash, major credit cards, and electronic payments such as ApplePay will be accepted.
