The Collegiate Gathering Returns to North Charleston November 1-2
Public Invited To Attend Concert Series Featuring South Carolina College Gospel Choirs

North Charleston, SC — The National Collegiate Gospel Choral Union presents The 2019 Collegiate Gathering, taking place on November 1st and 2nd at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church (7396 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406).

Friday will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church Main Sanctuary with musical selections by college and university gospel choirs. Saturday morning and afternoon will include breakout sessions on various topics, an acoustic café, and general session available to college and community choir members and musicians. A mini-college fair called The Bridge for high school students will start at 5 p.m. For the first time ever, local high school gospel choirs have been invited and will be singing as a combined choir at the Saturday evening concert starting at 6:30 p.m. All collegiate gospel choirs will also sing together.

This year’s returning choirs are from Benedict College, Charleston Southern University, Claflin University, Clemson University, Coastal Carolina University, College of Charleston, Columbia College, Francis Marion University, Furman University, Lander University, South Carolina State University, University of South Carolina Columbia, University of South Carolina Upstate, Winthrop University, and Wofford University. The Collegiate Gathering welcomes choirs from Anderson University, Morris College and University of South Carolina Beaufort this year. Representatives from University of Maryland plan to attend. Youth and young adults are encouraged to attend the event.

The National Collegiate Gospel Choral Union (NCGCU), formerly known as the South Carolina Student Choral Union (SCSCU), is an organization purposed in “Educating and Empowering The Next Generation” by focusing on Educational Development, Health and Wellness Disparities, Financial Literacy and Awareness, and Spiritual Enrichment and Community Involvement. The NCGCU is able to fulfill its purpose through The Collegiate Gathering. The organization is grateful that it can provide a larger platform to college and university choirs across the state of South Carolina and beyond.
