Trident Medical Center Earns National Award for Heart Attack Care

Trident Medical Center has earned the American College of Cardiology’s National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) ACTION Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2018. The award recognizes Trident Medical Center for providing cardiovascular care, specifically to heart attack patients, that ranks in the 90th percentile in the United State for two consecutive years. Trident Medical Center is one of only 94 hospitals in the United States to earn the Platinum Award, the highest level of recognition in the national ACTION Registry. It’s Trident’s fifth consecutive year to earn the award.

Interventional cardiologist Frederick Funke, MD, the medical director of Trident’s cardiac program, said, “In the last three years nearly 5,000 patients have trusted their heart care to the team at Trident Medical Center. The physicians, nurses and clinicians I work with every day are well qualified and highly skilled in the unique needs of heart attack and other cardiac patients. This award confirms our commitment to continue providing the highest quality of care to our patients.”

To receive the ACTION Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award, Trident Medical Center has demonstrated, sustained and achieved specific performance measures aligned with the ACTION Registry for eight consecutive quarters.

“As a Platinum Performance Achievement Award recipient, Trident has shown it’s a leader in implementing standards of care and protocols for its patients,” said Monique Sandhu, MD, interventional cardiologist. “By meeting the requirements set forth in the registry and establishing a culture of providing guideline-recommended therapy, Trident is saving lives and improving outcomes of heart attack patients.”

The Center for Disease Control estimates that more than 700,000 Americans suffer a heart attack each year. A heart attack occurs when a blood clot in a coronary artery partially or completely blocks blood flow to the heart muscle.

“We are honored to receive the ACTION Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award. Trident Medical Center’s physicians and caregivers strive every day to deliver the very best care. This award proves that we’re leading the way in cardiac care,” said Trident Health President and CEO Todd Gallati.
