Lee Ann Watson was recently selected by the South Carolina Retail Association (SCRA) Board of Directors to serve as the new executive director of SCRA. Watson formally assumed her new role as executive director on November 22, 2021, succeeding Rebecca Leach.

“The Board of SCRA welcomes Lee Ann and looks forward to working with her as she leads this association,” said Brooke Mueller, Walmart and SCRA Interim Board Chair. “Lee Ann’s professional and personal experience will be a great asset as she advocates for the retail industry before the South Carolina legislature and others within state and local government.”

Watson most recently served as general counsel of the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission. She previously practiced law in the Myrtle Beach area. Watson is president-elect of the Columbia Capital Rotary Club and has volunteered with the South Carolina Bar Association’s mock trial programs. Watson is also a graduate of the S.C. Certified Public Manager Program and a Riley Fellow through the Diversity Leaders Initiative. The Board of SCRA believe Watson’s work experience and training, have charted her on a course for great success as SCRA Executive Director.

In her new role, Watson will represent the retail industry of South Carolina before the legislature and regulatory agencies. She will be the source of information and insight to decision makers in Columbia and beyond on the industry that employs more than any other industry in South Carolina.

“Retailers and their employees responded heroically during the pandemic despite the innumerable challenges they experienced. I am so grateful to serve the members of this association and this industry, recognizing all they have done these past two years to serve and meet the needs of their customers,” said Watson. “I am excited to champion retail’s unique voice as retailers of all types and sizes continue to provide quality products and excellent customer service.”

Watson received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Furman University and is a graduate of the University of South Carolina’s School of Law. She lives in Columbia, SC with her husband, Spencer.
