Wings for Kids Welcomes Four New Board Members, Including Alumnus Student: Sh’Kur Francis, Carol Rawle, Nicole St. Pierre, Rebecca Ufkes Join the Nonprofit’s Board of Directors

Charleston, S.C. – June 7, 2021 – Wings for kids, an education nonprofit dedicated to social-emotional learning, is pleased to announce the appointment of four new members to its Board of Directors: Sh’Kur Francis, Carol Rawle, Nicole St. Pierre, and Rebecca Ufkes.

“We are thrilled to welcome Carol, Nicole, and Rebecca to the WINGS family, and especially excited to welcome home Sh’Kur, who attended WINGS as a student,” said Bridget Laird, chief executive officer of Wings for Kids. “Their strengths, experiences, and expertise will support WINGS’ continued growth and help more kids soar through social-emotional learning.”

Sh’Kur Francis is a graduate of Winthrop University (B.A. History and Political Science) and Emory University (M. Div. Theology). A native of Charleston, S.C., Sh’Kur attended WINGS at Memminger Elementary from 1999-2005 and later graduated from Burke High School. A former teacher, Sh’Kur is now the Senior Pastor at New Hope United Methodist Church in Anderson, S.C. And, as WINGS loves to tout, Sh’Kur is the self-proclaimed “Future Mayor of Charleston.”

Carol Rawle is an American business owner, fashion model, and pet product designer who started her own company, Harry Barker, Inc., in 1997. Carol is a long-time WINGS advocate and supporter who also dedicates many resources to the Medical University of South Carolina where she helps fund the Children’s Hospital therapy dog program. Carol has also served on the Board of Directors for Charleston’s only no-kill animal shelter Pet Helpers.

Nicole St. Pierre is a graduate of the University of Southern California (M.A., M.B.A. Integrated Corporate Communications Management) and has spent the last 8 years in Charleston as a marketing professional at the College of Charleston and more recently Blackbaud, Inc., where she serves as the Director of Customer Success, Onboarding, Adoption and Team Enablement. In addition to serving on the WINGS Board, Nicole is a member and volunteer of the National Alliance of Therapy Dogs.

Rebecca Ufkes, is a graduate of The Citadel and Michigan Technological University, where she was a member of the Society of Women Engineers. Rebecca is the co-founder and President of EUC Electronics, LLC., an engineering, design, prototyping, and manufacturing provider based in Charleston, S.C., and President of Ufkes Holdings. Rebecca has served on the Board of Directors of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce and on the Advisory Board for The Citadel’s School of Engineering. She is also actively involved in the Charleston Defense Contractors Association and its STEM initiatives within the local education community.

Francis, Rawle, St. Pierre, and Ufkes join 16 fellow members of the Wings for Kids’ Board of Directors.
